Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, who handles IBF, IBO, WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (19-0, 19 KOs), says that a unification with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) will not be his boxer’s next fight.

On October 28th in Cardiff, Joshua will make a mandatory defense of his title against Kubrat Pulev of Bulgaria.

And then a week later, on November 4th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Wilder will defend his belt against mandatory challenger, Bermane Stiverne.

The current plan at the moment, is to have Joshua get past Pulev and then stage a fight overseas – potentially in Las Vegas.

If Joshua gets past his first assignment of 2018, and Wilder keeps winning, then Hearn wants to match them against each other in a huge unification.

“I think Anthony’s next fight after Pulev will be abroad. Maybe Las Vegas, maybe the Middle East. Then his next fight after that will be a unification — and I want the Wilder fight. It’s all there for Anthony, and he just has to keep winning. But first, let’s deal with the Pulev fight,” Joshua told The Mirror.

Wilder has been verbally bashing both Hearn and Joshua in the press. He wants the fight as soon as possible.

Joshua issued a response to Wilder on Monday, warning that a showdown will come sooner than later.

“All these guys talk about me all the time and it’s negative, always negative, but sooner or later I’ll be ramming my jab down their throat,” Joshua told Sky News when advised of Wilder’s statements.

“It’s not a matter of if, it’s just a matter of when when it comes to the likes of David Haye and Deontay Wilder because there has been no era of boxing where heavyweights, middleweights, welterweights haven’t come together. We have to fight each other and that’s just the way it’s going to go.”
