Filming has stopped on the upcoming Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, because of out filmmaker Bryan Singer’s sudden absence, Variety reports.

“Twentieth Century Fox Film has temporarily halted production on Bohemian Rhapsody due to the unexpected unavailability of Bryan Singer,” said the studio in a statement issued Friday.

A representative for Singer, 52, blames the halt on “a personal health matter concerning Bryan and his family,” adding that the director and producer “hopes to get back to work on the film soon after the holidays.”

The biopic, which stars Emmy-winning Mr. Robot actor Rami Malek as late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, has been filming in London. Singer posted photos of Malek from the set in October.

Joining Malek in the film are Joe Mazzello as Queen bassist John Deacon, Ben Hardy as drummer Roger Taylor, and Gwilym Lee as lead guitarist Brian May.

Mercury died of AIDS complications in 1991 and Deacon retired in 1997. May and Taylor, who are consultants on the biopic, have continued to perform under the Queen name with Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert as vocalists.

Renewed discussion about sexual predators in Hollywood has increased scrutiny of Singer, who has been repeatedly accused of sexual misconduct. Multiple cases alleging that Singer sexually harassed or assaulted minors have been dismissed.

Bohemian Rhapsody is slated for U.S. release December 25, 2018.
